How to Care for Your Ankara Garment

Ankara care: start with your garment label

Can Ankara go in the washing machine? Some of our pieces can, but there is no single washing rule for every garment. Our range includes different fabrics, blends and constructions. Always follow the care label supplied with your piece. This guide summarises care instructions currently listed in our product descriptions; it is not a replacement for your garment label.

Washing: cold, 30°C or hand-wash?

Choose the instructions for your particular piece, rather than applying one method to every Ankara garment.

  • Machine wash at 30°C: this is listed for Ankara Barrel Trousers, The Statement Hooded Ankara Maxi Dress, The Hooded Ankara Maxi Dress, Brown Ankara Hoodie Maxi Dress, Patch Ankara Hoodie Dress, and our full-zip knee-length Ankara hoodie dresses, including the flower version.
  • Hand-wash or gentle machine wash cold: this is listed for Unisex Ankara Pant with Pockets, the Navy version, Unisex Ankara Crepe Co-Ord Set and Unisex Ankara Crepe Jogger Co-Ord Set.
  • Hand-wash or dry clean recommended: this is listed for the ASK Ankara Unisex Bomber Jacket. Do not assume the machine-washing advice for other pieces applies to this jacket.
  • Follow the garment instructions: the LTS Red Ankara Wide-Leg Trousers description directs you to the garment care instructions without specifying a temperature.

Colour care and separate washing

The Patch Ankara Hoodie Dress description recommends washing with similar colours. Follow any separate-washing instruction on your own garment label. Our checked Ankara product descriptions do not establish a universal number of separate washes or guarantee when a print will stop releasing colour. If you are unsure whether your piece can be washed with other colours, contact us before washing.

This guide does not recommend vinegar rinses or other dye-setting treatments: those treatments are not supported by the product instructions checked.

Drying

The Unisex Ankara Pant with Pockets, its Navy version, and both Unisex Ankara Crepe co-ord sets specify do not tumble dry. For other garments, check the label for the permitted drying method. The checked Ankara descriptions do not provide one air-drying or tumble-drying rule for the entire range.

Ironing

The Unisex Ankara Pant with Pockets, its Navy version, and both Unisex Ankara Crepe co-ord sets specify iron on low heat, inside out. Do not substitute a hotter cotton setting. For other garments, follow the ironing symbols or instructions on the label; no single iron temperature is specified across the range.

What if the label differs or instructions are missing?

Follow the care label supplied with your garment rather than general fabric advice. If the label is missing, unclear or differs from the product description, contact us with the product name before washing, drying or ironing so we can clarify the instructions for your piece. Headwear should also be cared for according to its own label; the clothing instructions above should not be assumed to apply.
